This is what they said over at the Fab Life;
We’re not shy about our vampire obsession around here. And even as angels and werewolves and dystopian battlefields take over the screens and bookshelves, it doesn’t look like sexy bloodsuckers are going anywhere. Sure, they experience a bit of boom and bust, but a look back at the last 100 years in pop culture proves their undying staying power. In 2011, our blood was stirred by a nice crop of undead seducers, from Eric and Bill on True Blood to Damon and Stefan on The Vampire Diaries to the entire morally upstanding Cullen family…
Nominees include True Blood vampires; Eric, Bill, Jessica and Pam. From The Vampire Diaries; Damon, Stefan and Katherine. They even include vampires from book series’ like The Night Huntress series, and the Black Dagger Brotherhood. Not to mention, the ever popular Twilight.
While I love many of them listed, I would love to see Eric Northman move up higher in the standings and for sure, staying above Bill Compton!

I’m glad Bones is doing well, but Eric should really be higher than that. At least he’s beating Bill, sucks that Stefan never does well in these things. I’m probably one of the few who prefer him over Damon.
I think that True blood is not going so well in these votings nowadays is because the show has lost lots of its hardcore fans, nowadays I see mainly just casual viewers commenting on true blood related stuff, and they really don´t seem to watch the show for storylines, they don´t even seem to understand everything, but only for Alcides naked ass or something like this, its just really really sad, but thats what you get when you show much bad writing in the show like it was the case in season 4…
I was absolutely suprised when I saw how little votes Eric got. Really a shame that he didn’t get many votes yets. Hopefully it will improve but who knows, with the way AB treated this show and with the shoddy storylines and dialog, its’ a shame what he did to ruin this show and turn it into a real cheesy production…….. Alan should have stuck to the books and then he would have been alright.
i don`t know how eric is so low in the polls . it looks like kate bosworth work on ruining alexander skarsgard is ruining his career . that is my opinion . i read to many blogs about this happening . all the polls are low with anything dealing with him even alan ball screwing he over on the show . don`t get it excellent actor and director ……. i hope something happens for him quick . i really don`t like this at all and it is not me . this is totally insane ……….. kate bos was bad business for him …… rumors say she was going ruin him if he stayed with her ……. i hope he will be back on top soon . i hope .. i love him don`t get it …….
You’re seriously blaming Kate for him being low in this poll? She has nothing to do with it, there are lots of popular vampires in this list. We should just be glad he’s gotten anything, and at least he’s beating Bill. I don’t listen to rumors, bottom line is you don’t know what really happened between them, but it’s none of our business.
I don´t think it has anything to do with this, its just that True blood has lost its appeal, seriously, people who watch vampire shows are rather watching the vampire diarees, because there at least they focus on the more important stuff – the vampires, unlike True blood which is only about Bill and his stupid redemption and all the fairy badly written crap and werewolves that are just lame…
I have seen lots of votings in the past and VAmpire diares or the vampires of this show are always winning, it is more appealing to the younger audience and the young girls are swooning over damon, he definitely is really sexy, but not more sex thant eric when you compare these two with each other, its just that vampire diares is much more popular and has a more devoted fanbase and nowadays you can even say that the writing is better on that show, the CW show is better written than the one on HBO LOL; You can constantly read comments anywhere and reviews, like the recent one that was posted on here in which they are complaining about the inconsistencies and plotholes, the cheesyness and the tons of useless characters, so no surprise VD is more popular than TB

Oh my God, thank you, I’ve been wanting to say something about that…lol! If there’s one thing I can’t stand, it’s when someone types using all Caps, it feels like they’re just yelling and all it does is make most people scroll right by. I don’t read those comments at all. But yeah, I agree, Vampire Diaries is a much better show, but Damon has nothing on Eric. I’m not even that big of a Damon fan, so he’s not the only reason I watch, but Eric is definitely the only reason I haven’t given up on True Blood yet.
Isnt the CW free tv? More people always seem to watch free tv than paid cable premium channels. Also, Vampire Diaries may not be on hiatus like TB is. I believe VD is still showing new episodes. We will just have to wait to see what the ratings will be like for TB come their new season 5. It may go down in comparison to other seasons but I have a feeling it will not go down by much.
Yes, not a lot of people bother paying for HBO. CW has a regular three month or so hiatus before every season, and at least 22 episodes.
I’ve read somewhere that the actor playing Damon in Vampire Diaries actually auditioned initially to play Eric Northman in TB but obviously did not get to play the role as Alex Skarsgard got it. Then Damon the actor got offered in Vampire Diaries. If there is one good decision that TB did that is to get AS to play Eric- he is just so perfect for it. Although AS auditioned for the role of Bill initially- most probably I won’t be as mad if Sookie will go gaga over Bill if AS got the part. Hmmmm on the other hand no way AS is so Eric and not Bill at all.
Ian Somerhalder actually auditioned for Jason, which is hilarious as I don’t think he was right at all.
And yeah, AS auditioned for Bill because it was the first part to be cast so basically everyone read that part even though they weren’t actually being considered for it. Ryan Kwanten also read for Bill and even Trammell I think. But AB obviously knew for the start who AS was going to play, and so did Alex himself, and same for the others.
So this “alex auditioned for Bill” myth is a bit misleading…
I am pretty sure that Alex would win much more of these votings if the writing on True blood were better and if they would give him more screen time and if the writers would focus more on the vampires, even if I was a neutral I would always consider Alex as much more attractive as Ian S., I knew the guy from Lost already but never really thought he is that hot or something like this, but if you would put alex and ian next to each other, alex would just tower him like everyone else… I guess Alex is just on the wrong show… VAmpire diares just has much more appealing vampires, all of them are hot (Stefan, Damon and all the others), while on True blood the only really hot male vampire is ERic, seriously, Bill looks like a grumpy guy next to him, and when you consider that the show nowadays only sells the sex and nudity, then I even more don´t understand it why they prop up bill all the time, Jason, Eric, Alcide and most of the other guys on the show are hotter than this one and I don´t even want to talk about Bills stupid personality…
The Vampire Diaries will ALWAYS win this kind of polls regardless of TB’s quality, because teenagers make up most of its audience and they’re the ones who vote en masse. Same with Twilight etc. True Blood is an adult show AND on cable. So yeah, these results are expected and don’t mean much as to who actually is “the best” vampire, which is pretty subjective anyway.
Still, I agree with you all in that as much as it’s seen as a silly teenage dram, TVD has much tighter writing, better plots and consistent characters than TB. Which is so, so sad.
the writing is definitely one of the main reasons The VD is much more popular than TB, its just unbelievable when you look at the writers they have on TB, how the hell did they think that the writing was ok in season 4, seriously, some of the lines in season 4 could have been written by a 10 year old kid, its just so embarassing, but yes in general VD is more popular because of the teenagers, lots of Twilight hardcore fans seem to love VD…
I’m 28 and still prefer Vampire Diaries over True Blood, it is pretty sad.
I haven’t watched nor read the VD books- but a workmate did both and she said that the VD show also steers away from the story in the book just like TB. So I’m just not sure why VD is more popular could be just like what you guys said- teenage target market, better writing and more market reach.
well, I have read some comments of VD fans, and lots of them said that the books aren´t that good, I think in this case the show is better than the books, but with TB its definitely the other way round…
I totally agree with you Laura- I forgot to mention that my workmate also said that the show is way way much better than the books. So hopefully AB will get their act together and keep close to the book as much as possible.
I remembered loving the books when I was younger, but I didn’t have much to compare them to. I definitely think I prefer the show.
Oh, people were upset in the beginning by how different it was, but like you said, the writing is just better that it keeps them coming back for more. I read the VD books as a kid and luckily don’t really remember much about them, but I do know the show is a lot different.
