Our good friend, Chelsea Mueller from Heroes and Heartbreakers, (as well as the Vampire Book Club) has written a brilliant article on why she’s on Team Eric, and the overall appeal of Eric Northman as a character! We thought you might be interested in reading it too!

I’d be falling all over myself for the Viking vampire regardless of who portrayed him on the hit HBO show True Blood. Sure, the Swedish actor is a bonus, but from the first time Eric appeared on the page, then on screen, he piqued my interest.
I often hear others say that Eric doesn’t really love Sookie or that he’s controlling. This is the real beauty to Eric Northman; he loves completely and fully, but in a way that is entirely other. His love is more about protection.
She talks more about his love for Sookie, his progeny Pam, and more details into who Eric Northman is as a character and why she loves him…but don’t we all?

Read the post earlier today, and yes I agree with everything she had to say. Eric is the essence of what it is to be a Vampire. As she stated (and as I have felt since I started reading the SVM series) I loved Eric the minute I read his character. Beyond a doubt, with Alex playing him on TB it is only a very large bonus indeed.
I enjoyed the article very much as she put into words what I felt from the very beginning. That Eric loves in a different way then humans, etc.

I recently read the Southern Vampire series back to back – It was intense. Just like everybody else, I was enthralled and intoxicated by Eric’s storyline, but I don’t think my opinion is going to be popular I’m afraid. Time and again, Ms Harris makes it clear that Eric loves his life and it will always come first – even at the point where he gets his memories back, when it all becomes possible for him and Sookie, he waits until his business is settled (and there’s a rival on the scene again) before he visits to “claim her”. I could give you so many more examples, but I don’t want to block your blog up! On the other hand, Sookie is a creature of the light, by virtue of both the races who created her. She does not want to be a vampire. She is lucky enough to have a place where she belongs, family and friends who love and accept her. The last book saw Sookie refusing protection (in Eric’s house) in a last-ditch attempt to hold on to all that. Eric is increasingly unhappy with this compromise, and rightly so – if it continues, one of them will die (her because she is the weak spot his enemies can exploit, or him protecting her). So Sookie can’t come to his world without giving up everything she is, and they can’t keep compromising – what about him coming to her? If he was offered the chance to become human, would he? Could he, without losing all his joi de vivre? He has spent 1000 years loving life as a predator, so I personally think not … And would you really want to see him selling real estate, getting old and dying? The sad thing about it is, book 4 gave us a flash of what might have been, if Eric was more human …
I agree with this article as well but i still believe the first time he met Sookie season 1 episode 4 Eric fell for each right then and there and they weren`t even blood bonded or anything watch that episode even Bill i saw felt that way to that`s why he said Sookie is mine to Eric. And Eric said what a pity for me Eric loves and protects her and truly what`s her to be his there is love in Eric and it`s only for Sookie
I fell in Love with Eric Northman the night I watched Episode 4/Season 1 of TrueBlood.
But I met him when I spied a preview commercial for the Series.
And when i saw this sexy gentleman I was hooked.
All I had to do was see “Blond hair,blue-green eyes,6’5″,a beautiful smile and the
body of a Viking warrior” and you had me at hello.
I was in love. But when I watched “Escape from the Dragon House” and saw the episode
and saw the meeting between Eric Northman and Sookie Stackhouse.
I had to know more about Eric Northman.
Who was he,where did he come from?? I wanted to know.
I wanted to be with him.
Over the last four years I’ve found out some of the things about him.
Eric Northman is protective of Sookie Stackhouse and those who are close to him.
Eric Northman knew the second he laid his eyes upon Sookie Stackhouse that he
wanted her and that she would be his one day.
Eric Northman also knew that he’d seen her someplace before?
But where, when did he see her? And how does he know her.
Last Season we saw into Eric Northman’s Heart,thanks to the Witch Marnie.
When Eric was cursed, we got to see his hidden side.
The side that he keeps deep inside of him.
The Eric Northman,owner of Fangtasia is only a facade for the tourists who come there.
The real Eric Northman is a mixture of Club owner Eric & Eric Northman the former man
before he was made Vampire by Godric,his Maker.
This is the Eric Northman who loves Sookie Stackhouse.
I’m a reader of the fanfiction called “LATE!!!” by Morgaine Swann.
This is a wonderful story that tells of the connection between Eric Northman
And Sookie Stackhouse and how far it goes back.
