Thoughts of a Fan… The End Game

May 1st is almost around the corner and we can almost smell the newly printed pages of Deadlocked in our grasps. This is a bittersweet thought for all of us because Deadlocked is the second to last book of our beloved Sookie Stackhouse Novels. As the end grows nearer, the theories on what the end game is for our dear telepathic friend. We here at Eric and Sookie Lovers firmly believe that Eric and Sookie will be together. For the Viking Vampire and Telepath go together like 2 pieces of a puzzle. The Telepath and the Dog… not so much, except as Man’s (or Woman’s) Best Friend.

One of our regular visitors, Leif, has shared with us their thoughts about this topic.

We’d thought we’d share :)

Sam is a “Creature of sunshine”
He lives and works in Bon Tempts.
He could move to the farm.
He only has to shift at the full moon.
He is warm blooded, can make babies, cook breakfast and be a guard dog or lion at will.
Jason is a were panther, so no problem having an “in” with the family. And they can frolic under the moon together and the cousins will be close.

When Sookie wanted someone to reach out and touch her – there was Sam touching her shoulder.(DitF)
She wanted to hear the voice of someone who loved her(Sam) during her torture in DAG.
Sam can block Sookie from his thoughts.
Sam appears to not be interested in supe politics (though he is very informed)
He knows most of Sookie’s secrets (save Hunter and reading vamp minds occasionally – so far)
He longs for Sookie and has since book one.
He leaves her to make her choices, even against his better judgement.
They are friends.
Sam’s been attending church, Sookie is a self proclaimed lousy Christian who needs to get back on her spiritual path.
She runs into Sam at church. Suprise and hallelujah!

Sookie has not slept with Sam, but appreciates the arresting view.
Sookie seems to not approve of Sam’s choice in women, and Sam wishes Sookie would find happiness with someone else, and has no trouble asserting his POV to her.
Small town girl ends up with small town boy after going out into the world only to discover home really is where the heart is.
BLISS!
Makes a pretty good case for Sam, doesn’t it?

It’s all so perfect. Slap a bow on it and call it done.
Which *imo*, makes it SO cliche, not to mention predictable and boring. Yawn.

Give me an *against all odds* ending any day.
A thousand years of night is so much more appealing.
“The vampire is not a bad man and he loves you”
Eternal darkness meets a part sky fae who loves the sunshine. EPIC.
Overcoming social barriers, defeating your enemies, unpredictable futures, making a stand for what and whom you believe in.
Romance, adventure, intrigue and mystery.
People CAN change, Vampires CAN evolve, and the world is anyone’s oyster.

That would be EPIC.
That’s what I’m hoping for after reading the first book.
It’s not a debate to me, it’s just *MY* wish for the end of the series.
And yes, I know it’s not up to *me*, and I know it’s CH’s choice, etc etc.
Just stating *my* opinion and what I would prefer to see at the end of this wonderful journey, or maybe the end is really just the beginning.

I cant be the only one who thinks Sam is the ‘obvious’ choice for Sookie? Not necessarily THE one, but the most obvious (predictable and boring) choice? I never really considered any of the little “Sam bombs” to be actual bombs. He’s always been a steady but somewhat peripheral presence in Sookie’s life.IMO.

What do you think?

We absolutely love LOVE this and completely agree with this rant… for why do you want to play it safe when you can have everything your heart desires?

Really, there is never enough Eric... I'm loyal to the Viking, no matter what. I will love him whether in Book, Show, and just because... my first thoughts are of him and I close my eyes to dream of him. As far as I'm concerned, the night can not get here soon enough.

  1. Love it!! Thanks for sharing Leif!!

  2. Exactly, Sam would be the safe and boring choice. Not something I think Sookie would end up being happy with in the long run.

  3. Love this excellent post by Leif! I really can’t see Sookie settling for less when she has had the best in Eric Northman. I have read no evidence that Sam is in her thoughts romantically.

  4. Give me an “Against all odds” ending over boring and predictable anyday.
If I wanted the fairy tale ending where everything is wrapped up in a tidy bow and the world is perfect, I would read traditional romance novels, not paranormal mysteries where anything and everything can happen, most of which is non traditional. Thank you very much!

    The Viking and the Telepath.
Exciting, unpredictable, non traditional, mysterious, intriguing and yes, EPIC.
With these two left standing together at the end of the books, it really could be just the beginning. <3

  5. I toyally agreee why have dude when u can have a stud. Love your post Leif.

  6. Love your logic Leif, and this is exactly why I can’t believe Sam is Sookie’s HEA. A compromise which would negate all of Sookie’s growth and evolution, not to mention Erics.

  7. Absolutely on the money, Leif. If at the end of 13 books, after the highs and lows, the intrigue, frustrations, near misses she then settles for anyone but Eric it will be an absolute disservice. We want epic and we want to believe somewhere in a parallel universe there is a Sookie and Eric forever after.

  8. Hard to disagree with such obvious logic. Sam would be settling, something that is so opposite of who Sookie is. And I have trouble believing she would do that to him because she does care for him and knows all too well how he feels about her. Be with someone you can’t give your whole heart to, knowing that inevitably he will realize it? That would be cruel. I guess we’ll all know in about 15 months won’t we? …

  9. I totally agree, while Sam would be a normal “romance novel” choice, we want the super sexy 1,000 year old viking stud vampire to be the with her in the end. After all why would most if not all of the series be based on her and Eric and their ELECTRICITY for each other and their growth as a couple? First it was his forbidden lust and longing for her (her just the same though she had a hard time admitting it), I dont think he would give that up for anything after all this time lol. When I think of how it might end, I get nervous on how CH will end the series but then I feel better after reading stuff like this, I know that Sook will never want to be a vampire.. I know she wants children someday & to be married (not just the vamp marriage), but I think that she wouldn’t be able to give up her Viking for that type of life, they need each other. I just hope nothing super tragic happens, like Eric dyeing or her or both. All I know is that there will be tons of pissed off Eric and Sookie lovers if something ends between them, I think that CH will never hear the end of it if she does that… So here’s hoping and wanting a AMAZING Eric & Sookie Ending!!

  10. Oh my Eric!!! This fan is awesome I wish I could meet him! I cried over this part “Eternal darkness meets a part sky fae who loves the sunshine. EPIC.” Epic indeed!!!

  11. Thanks Leif i love the post

  12. I’ve also wondered if CH hasn’t intended for Sookie to end up with Sam. Can’t remember the book, 1 or 2, when she talks about having kids and sitting on the porch. Agree that is all too safe and the easy choice. I have some thoughts on how this may go down but I’m just gonna wait & see if I’m right. If so, Sookie may get to have her cake & eat it too so to speak.

  13. Thanks for the great post. Sookie needs to end up with Eric. They so love each other!

  14. I totally agree. Its why I think Bill and Sookie won’t work either. He’s all brooding and regretful, which is such a cliche. Whereas Eric has no regrets whatsoever, and is very lively. No Author wants to write the same thing over and over. They want it to have a twist. So, I think Eric and Sookie are going to be together, for sure. I just realized I veered off course from the focus of this post.

  15. [...] The End Game: Read one Eric and Sookie lover’s thoughts on Sookie’s HEA in the book series and find out why you shouldn’t play it safe, but choose the one your heart truly desires! [...]
