True Blood Season 4 DVD – Commentary Details

True Blood’s Season 4 DVD will be coming out on May 21st (Europe/UK), May 23rd (Australia), May 29th (US & Canada), and June 1st (Germany)!

One of the special features fans like best about DVD/Blu-Rays are commentaries by the actors, writers, directors and producers on the show; who give us a behind-the-scenes look at ‘who, what, why and how’ of each episode!

Here’s a taste of what you’ll receive on True Blood’s Season 4 DVD/Blu-Ray…

  • Enhanced Viewing – This in-episode viewing mode allows you to watch True Blood with pop-up trivia, picture-in-picture character point-of-view commentaries and break-away flashback scenes from previous seasons’ episodes.
  • Inside the Episodes (1.78:1; 1080p/24)
  • Commentary on Episode 2 “You Smell Like Dinner” by Stephen Moyer (Bill), Deborah Ann Woll (Jessica), and Brian Buckner (writer, co-executive producer)
  • Commentary on Episode 3 “If you Love Me, Why Am I Dyin’?” by Anna Paquin (Sookie) and Alan Ball (creator and executive producer)
  • Commentary on Episode 4 “I’m Alive and on Fire” by Alexander Skarsgård (Eric) and Michael Lehmann (director)
  • Commentary on Episode 6 “I Wish I Was the Moon” by Raelle Tucker (writer, co-executive producer) and Gregg Fienberg (executive producer)
  • Commentary on Episode 9 “Let’s Get Out of Here” by Sam Trammell (Sam) and Romeo Tirone (director)
  • Commentary on Episode 10 “Burning Down the House” by Fiona Shaw (Marnie) Nancy Oliver (writer, co-executive producer), and Lesli Linka Glatter (director)
  • True Blood: The Final Touches (1.78:1; 1080p/24; 00:28:25) – A roundtable discussion with the True Blood post-production staff wherein they discuss much of their visual/special effects work.
  • True Blood Lines – This interactive feature lets you explore the different character types in the world of True Blood (ex. Vampires, Werewolves, Faeries, Werepanthers, etc.) and the interconnection between each type in the ongoing storyline.
  • DVD — Two double-sided DVDs of the entire series
  • Digital Copy — Downloadable Digital Copy for Mac/PC, iPod/iPad/iPhone and Windows Media-Compatible devices

What we find most interesting about these commentaries; is the fact that there are no commentaries for the final two episodes. Hmmm…could it be they have no words for how the season ended?

What about the fact that Stephen Moyer (Bill Compton) will be commenting on Episode 2 “You Smell Like Dinner” –  in which Eric loses his memory? We would find it more interesting to find out how Alex felt about the scene where the spell is cast.

We can’t wait (of course) to find out Alex’s thoughts on drunken Eric! He is commenting on Episode 4 “I’m Alive And On Fire”! We’re curious to find out how warm the water was…KROKODILLER!!

Raelle Tucker will be giving insight to Episode 6 “I Wish I Was The Moon” – a favorite episode with Eric and Sookie lovers. Wonder what she’ll say?

Overall, Blu-Ray Definition.com gave True Blood Season 4’s Blu-Ray – 4 stars!

  1. I have mine pre ordered . i love this season it was more Eric this time around . It did not end as i thought but i was still amused by it .

  2. I think Alex was given the perfect episode, but it would have been nice to see him and Anna doing a commentary together.

  3. defnitely not buying this, anyone who is a fan of the books or just an eric sookie lover would just waste their money on Alan balls bill boner fanfiction – True Bill – still can remember the huge disappointment of the people around here and lots of other fansites, and people were saying they are not going to buy it. I waited till season 4 and had the intention to buy all of them, but I didn’t do it because the show has turned into a huge mess, season 4 was too cheesy, all the eric sookie scenes got interrupted by Bill because AB couldn’t take him out of the eric sookie storyline for at least 1 minute (even his face was in their first love scenen *eyeroll) and why should I watch the first, still well done episodes of season 4 when I already know that its all just going to turn out bad…
Eric did also have less screen time than Bill, book 4 was erics book and still they just shoved bill down our throats and made it all about Bills redemption and of course superhero bill even defeated Marnie and made Eric his underling… still so mad who the show got ruined by ABs obsession with the character Bill, who shouldn’t even be such a big factor on the show anymore…

    • This! You’ve explained exactly why I won’t be buying them.

    • whats with the dislikes, are some bill fans lurking on here, I just mentioned true facts, Eric and sookie had jus 6-7 minutes in each episode, or even less and bill was included in almost all of them, it was just so annoying and then of course the unsexy threesome dream… they could have easily given bill a more separate storyline, him doing his king stuff, but no he was in almost every sookie eric scene, I couldn’t enjoy any of their scenes… and on True blood sookie is obsessed with bill and constantly forgives him, does book sookie things like that and even asks bill for forgiveness?

      • Yeah, didn’t you see Rebekka’s post where she said, LOL? They love to lurk…so don’t worry about them unliking your comment! ;)

        • We get a lot of dislikes, though, for comments that no E/S fan should dislike. I think we have a lot of Bill lurkers in here, someone needs to get a life already.

      • No in the book after she breaks up with Bill he is an after thought and then after awhile he is just a blip on the map. In the books it is Sookie and Eric and Bill tries to butt in here and there but Sookie puts him in his place and tells him he had his chance and well now it’s over and she really has eyes and thoughts for Eric and Pam.

  4. Unfortunately, I won’t be buying it either. I would of loved to if season 4 ended a bit differently, but since it ended the way it did, I vowed not to buy the DVD of Season 4 and will just be content to watch eppys 1 thru 8 that I had previously recorded.

I hope that now that AB has stepped away from the show, the storylines and plot holes will be less and hopefully the writers will back down with shoving soooooo much Billy down our throats.
But I think at this point, this is just an impossible dream on my part.

I will be watching TB this coming season, but ONLY to see Alex. The rest of the storylines I really don’t care.

  5. Something we are going to get in the UK first for once!
I think I might have decided which commentary I’m going to listen to first :)

  6. Even though I didn’t love this season, I have the first three on DVD and will likely be buying this one as well.

    • Same here…even though the season ended up being shitty…I still will buy the DVDs just for the commentary of Alex. (Maybe some of the others too – just to see what they say). I have this need to have the entire series or it won’t look complete. Yes, I’m OCD! LOL

      • LOL, I have that same problem. I have all 10 seasons of Smallville since I already had the first three and felt that I had to get the rest, but never did I think the show would have lasted that long…lol!

        • there are other ways to listen/ watch the commentary, you basically waste your money and give it to Alan ball, I just don’t get it at all that you basically support Alan ball by spending you money on the dvd, its really obvious that most people that are eric and sookie fans or book readers were extremely disappointed, remember the “an open letter to Alan ball” that was posted on here…
and I can’t stomach to watch queen bill all over the place…

and whats with all the dislikes for people who don’t want to buy the dvd, its obvious that eric and sookie on TB got just treated like a fling, in ABs world Bill is sookies one and only, totally different to charlaines books, in which eric is definitely the main guy…

          • I understand how you feel Laura, but not every Eric and Sookie lover feels the same way as you…plus, we’re supporting other people besides AB…the cast (Alexander Skarsgard) and crew who work behind the scenes need to earn money as well.

          • Okay, really, you’re allowed to do whatever you want, but if others choose to get the DVD’s, that’s their right to do so.

  7. You want my two cents? I never buy the DVD’s when the new season comes out. Why when I can watch it ondemand. Who really cares about commentary?

  8. Can’t say s4 was a favourite for me, but I’ll most likely buy the DVDs anyway. Too much Eric/Sookie for me. And just to clarify, I’m not a Sookie/Bill fan either. In fact, Sookie is probably one of my least favourite characters. Love Pam, Sam and Eric (minus Sookie).
