“After Dead” Synopsis

sookie-book-set
We informed you recently that Charlaine Harris will be releasing a CODA of the Sookie Stackhouse series – titled, “After Dead” and it is now available for pre-order (see link above). “After Dead” will tell us what happens to all the other characters who Charlaine doesn’t write about or we don’t know of their fate by the end of “Dead Ever After”.

Amazon.com has a synopsis which will give us a hint of what will happen in “After Dead”!

Read it below…

This quote below appears on Amazon underneath the book description;

Dead Ever After marked the end of the Sookie Stackhouse novels—a series that garnered millions of fans and spawned the hit HBO television show True Blood. It also stoked a hunger that will never die…a hunger to know what happened next.

With characters arranged alphabetically—from the Ancient Pythoness to Bethany Zanelli—bestselling author Charlaine Harris takes fans into the future of their favorite residents of Bon Temps and environs. You’ll learn how Michele and Jason’s marriage fared, what happened to Sookie’s cousin Hunter, and whether Tara and JB’s twins grew up to be solid citizens.

This coda provides the answers to your lingering questions—including details of Sookie’s own happily-ever-after…

Remember, this book is due to be released on October 29, 2013!

Who is Bethany Zanelli? I don’t remember her. There was a Bethany Rogers in LDID though.  How far into the future does this go? Will Tara and JB’s twins be full-grown? It appears that Michele and Jason survive DEA…most of all, what does it mean by “details of Sookie’s own happily-ever-after”? ARGH! So many questions and not enough answers!

Special thanks to krtmd over at the Sookieverseblog for the head’s up!

  1. Yeah, who is Bethany Zanelli? Curiouser and curiouser, as Alice would say.

  2. The ONLY way I will spend any more money on SVM series after DEA is if Sookie and Eric are together at the end of the book. Otherwise, to me it would be a refusal from me to spend another penny on this series. I’ve invested too much time and money over the years to have Eric run off to marry QOK.

I am glad however that it sounds like Sookie does get a HEA tho’, which I thought CH said she never gives her characters. (?) So I’m glad that she’ll be happy. I just hope to the powers that be it means she and Eric will be together as they are suppose to be!!!!

Yeah, and I don’t get who the heck Bethany Zanelli is, I think that they made a mistake and it should be Bethany Rogers too.

  3. Like the rest of you I speculate I will only buy this if I get the ending I want in May :)
Serious speculation – add Jason & Michele to the list of non-murder victims and Hunter obviously does not end up living with Sookie (which those desperate for Sookie to become a mother were hoping might happen).

  4. I feel the same way about the “coda” as the others here. If she screws up Eric and Sookie in Dead Ever After, I really don’t care about the others. And am I the only one who sees the irony in her doing this? Did any of you follow Alan Ball’s HBO series, “Six Feet Under”? That’s what he did in the last show of the series, showed us how every main character ended up, including dying in more than one case…

  5. This actually makes me really optimistic. One of my biggest fears was that Sookie’s unconventional HEA was that she would settle for being a mother figure to Hunter. I could see her separating from romantic involvement with supernaturals, but still having them on the fringes of her life, acting as watchful protectors. Bill is already permanently in that place, so I don’t even worry about him anymore. The news that IIHAH occurs after DEA makes it pretty clear that Sam is not Sookie’s HEA and simply a red herring. I thought there was a very good chance that Hunter would be the important person in her life giving her a different kind of HEA. I do not get that impression at all from this summary. It’s Eric or no one, and since I can’t see her being totally alone as much of a HEA, that only leaves one answer.

QoO isn’t there to take Eric out of her life in the last book. She is there to act as an opposing force. The struggle against that force will test Eric and Sookie, forcing them to really and truly deal with their issues. They will pass through fire and come out stronger than ever.

    • I really hope you’re right.

    • That’s my favorite comment of the week, no month, no year – thanks Red! With less than 70 days to go we need plenty of optimism now :)

      • Thanks, Evie! That’s quite a compliment! :) I’m a theater teacher, and I see Charlaine Harris skillfully using the essentials of dramatic structure to get us all worked up and invested in the characters. I really believe its just good story telling and we will all (well, most of us!) be happy in the end. For anyone interested, here are some key points of dramatic structure that give me my optimism!

•Conflict: The collision or opposition of persons or forces in a drama that gives rise to dramatic action
        – Crucible or test devised by the playwright to show how the characters behave under stress
        – The test and the characters’ reaction to it, bring out meaning of play
•Opposed Forces: The people in conflict are fiercely determined to achieve their goals
        – Powerful adversaries for one another
        – Both have clear, strong goals or objectives
•Balance of Forces: The people or forces must be evenly matched
        – Roughly equal in strength and determination
        – Hard fought and relatively equal contest is more exciting
        – Struggle as source of pleasure
