2/20 Quopic – Season 4, episode 3

True Blood Season 4 is now in full swing in the UK and last night in episode 3 “If you love me, why am I dyin’?” there was a further Eric Northman treat for the viewers, yet another side to everyone’s favorite viking – cute, adorable Eric.

Here at E&SL, we actually don’t think it was physically possible for him to be any cuter or more adorable. Who wouldn’t want to take him home and take good care of him?  So poor Sookie has our sympathy in today’s quopic trying (and failing) to tell him off.

“You just killed my fairy god-mother”.

“Sorry”.

To be fair to Sookie, she did try to send him to his room in the next episode!

This was the third episode in a row that ended with an Eric and Sookie scene, obviously the producers of the show knew which story-line would leave the viewers begging for more.

What did you think of cute, adorable Eric? Let us know below.

Sookie Named One of TV’s Biggest Heartbreakers

No one knows this better than Eric Northman – but Sookie Stackhouse was named as one of TV’s Biggest Heartbreakers by Wetpaint Entertainment!

Coming in at #7, they had this to say about our dear old Sookie;

No human, vampire, werewolf, or shapeshifter can resist Sookie’s (Anna Paquin) appeal. The small-town barmaid has gorgeous men literally lining up at her door. While she doesn’t mean to break their hearts, that’s what always happens. We would give them a shoulder to cry on… if only we lived in Bon Temps. Ah, the injustice.

There’s only one vampire’s heart we’re worried about, and that’s Eric Northman. Who could forget when she crushed his heart at the end of season 4?

We still feel heartbroken ourselves, mostly because we can’t understand how any of her other suitors could possibly measure up to Eric or the size of his Gracious Plenty!

We hope she comes to her senses soon, because this is not the Sookie Stackhouse we know and love!

Valentine’s Day Quopic

It’s February 14th, the most romantic day of the year, and our quopics today don’t really need an explanation. If one thing is for sure though in Sookie Stackhouse’s crazy world it is that Eric loves Sookie and Sookie loves Eric. It’s right there on the page and there is nothing anyone else can do about it. So let the viking vampire and telepathic fairy waitress love begin.

“Are you still mad?” I said, trying not to cry. Weeping would be craven, and I was forcing myself some steel into my backbone.

“Do you still love me?” he asked.

“You first”. Childish.

“I’m not angry”, he said. “At least, not anymore. At least not right now. I should have encouraged you to find a way to break the bond, and in fact we have a ritual for it. I should have offered it to you. I was afraid that without it we would be parted, whether because you didn’t want to be dragged into my troubles or because Victor found you were vulnerable. If he chooses to ignore the marriage, without the bond I won’t know that you are in danger”.

“I should have asked you what you thought, or at least warned you what we were going to do”, I said. I took a deep breath. “I do love you, all on my own”.

Dead Reckoning

“Sookie…….Tell her I was born the night she found me and because of her I went to my true death knowing what it means to love. Tell her thank you”.

I wish I was the moon tonight

“I won’t forget the day we met or the day we kissed. The sky may fall and the stars may too, but in the end, I will still love you …”

Sookie Stackhouse: A Ditzy, Bad-Ass B*tch?

Found this article and thought we’d post this to see what you thought…

Over at Book Riot, they have a feature called, “Genre Kryptonite”, where they reveal genres they have a “weak spot for”. They featured three book characters who they think are ‘ditzy, bad-ass bitches’ and Sookie is one of them.

Why is Sookie a ‘ditzy, bad-ass bitch’ according to them? Read on…

It is a name that they each get called on a regular basis. The insult is usually delivered by some guy they are fighting with, and more often than not, that guy finds himself flat on his back and in considerable physical pain. That is to say nothing about his injured pride.

These women, on the surface, don’t seem like much. They are not traditional beauties. Their bank balances hover just above zero. They are easily distracted. They are also highly intuitive, fiercely loyal, and unbelievably lucky. And under the right circumstances, they can definitely be bad-ass.

And, yeah, sometimes they can be bitches. But in a good way.

This is what they said about Sookie, who came in at #2 on their list…

Ditzy Bad-Ass Bitch #2:  Sookie Stackhouse

Sookie is all alone in the world except for the grandmother that raised her and her older brother, Jason. She’s a waitress at a local bar, and she keeps to herself as much as she’s able. It’s hard for her, though, since she can hear what everyone is thinking. Most of what she hears makes her not want to know too many people. Then in walks Bill. Bill’s a vampire, and she doesn’t hear anything coming from his head.

But, of course, you all know that. You watch True Blood. Anna Paquin does a fairly good job bringing Sookie to life, or she did until she started shooting balls of light from her palms. I’m also not sure about how they are handling the whole “Sookie is part fairy” thing. It’s getting weird. The books are better.

To find out who the other two characters are, please click here.

Here’s my two cents on this…but let us break it down in three parts.

Is Sookie ditzy? Maybe at times, but she has definitely proven she’s smarter than most people give her credit for. She pretends to be ditzy while ‘listening’ in on people’s thoughts in order to appear ‘normal’ and uses it to her advantage to appear nonthreatening and meek. On the show though…she takes it to a whole new level…she’s ditzy enough to fall for Bill and his lies. She definitely comes across as ‘ditzy’ when she forgave Bill and confessed that she still loved him, even after falling in love with Eric.

Is she ‘bad-ass’? She’s strong and fights for what she believes in, and doesn’t take shit from anybody, including Eric. How long was it after she found out about Bill’s betrayal before she was ready to call him by name again…? She gave Lorena a run for her money and killed her in the books, without the help of Bill. What about Debbie Pelt and her family? She killed her when Debbie was going to kill Eric. It looks like the Queen of Oklahoma will meet Sookie’s bad-ass side in the last two books of the series as well.  Let’s not forget how she treated Russell, when she rescued Eric from the sun and how she flushed Talbot’s remains down the sink with wicked glee, while Russell watched in horror.

Is she a ‘bitch’? You betcha! Mostly because of how she treats Eric on the show. He just can’t win with her. He gives her his heart and she tramples all over it. She doesn’t appreciate his ‘high-handed’ ways. She slaps him, yells at him…it’s a good thing Eric is good at ignoring her. But don’t forget…she did become bitch towards Bill when Eric was in the Queen’s custody and tried everything she could to try to save him.

We all have our bitchy moments…if there’s one thing Sookie is; she’s a fighter and willing to stand up for what she believes in, for her friends and family. If that makes her a ‘bitch’ – so be it.

2/8 Quopic of the day – Nancy Oliver

Today is the birthday of one of our favorite True Blood writers, Nancy Oliver. A woman responsible not only for the greatest episode of the show EVER, season 2 “I will rise up”, but also for one of the absolute highlights of last season – Drunk Amnesic Eric. Here at Eric & Sookie headquarters we are more than a little fraught that Nancy’s name has not yet appeared as one of the writers for the first half of season 5, but fingers crossed her writing pen will grace the second half with its trademark emotional punch.

As Nancy is so damned good – I’m cheating today and it’s a double quopic!

“There’s gators in there you crazy viking, get on out and let’s go home before  one of them chomps off your you know what”.

—————————————————

“You’ll care for him, Eric?”

“I’m not sure, you know how he is”

“I can take the blame for that too”

“Maybe not, Eric’s pretty much himself. Are you afraid?”

“No, no I’m full of joy”

We hope you have a wonderful birthday Nancy, and thanks for all the amazing True Blood moments you have given us!

Let us know how you rate Nancy Oliver’s writing in the comments below.

2/7 Quopic – Season 4 revisited

Being a native of the UK I have made it my mission to find a quopic from each episode of True Blood season 4 over the next 12 weeks as it finally legally airs over here. Will 6 months have dulled the pain? Will I be able to look at it more constructively? Well one thing is for sure, I enjoyed episode one the other night, there’s some good stuff in there that I had all but forgotten about. And by good stuff of course I mean good Eric stuff. Sure, Bill Compton bugged the hell out of me, but that’s nothing new, he’s done that since the night his mournful, lying face first appeared in Bon Temps.

It was a hard call. Eric’s sexy public service address was completely inspired in the way it was interwoven with Bill’s smarmy political speech. I certainly know which one I would trust if my life depended on it. And the final scene in Sookie’s bedroom is one of the sexiest scenes in True Blood EVER. Just don’t get me started on the growl, because if I start I won’t stop.

In the end I’ve gone for Eric and Sookie meeting up again for the first time, after her return from the land of fairy-fail. Eric calmly tells Sookie and the audience what the state of play has been whilst she was away.

Understand this – everyone who claims to love you, your friends, your brother, even Bill Compton, they all gave up on you. I never did.

Yes, Sookie do listen to him (of course she will) Jason has moved on and sold the house, Andy has moved on and didn’t get his plaque (ok perhaps he didn’t love her but I like the plaque bit), Alcide, we will discover, has moved on and moved Debbie back in, and as for Bill, he’s been so busy participating in the cold-blooded assassination of his reigning monarch, and sexing up his wiccan spy, he’s probably hardly noticed she was gone. Eric of course, not only bought her house so she would have a home to return to, but from the clues we are given, has been spending an awful lot of his time there patiently waiting for her return.

Oh and then there’s his exit line.

Don’t forget to let us know what you thought were the highs and lows of episode one, or is it all just a dull blur these days?

How should Sookie spend her birthday?

It’s only 86 days to Deadlocked, and it will soon be time for the nail biting to begin. During our random checking of Charlaine Harris official web-site, we spied a post from the good lady herself:

The only way I keep track at all is through my awesome continuity editor. Sookie has a birthday in DEADLOCKED.

Charlaine Harris

Of course we all wish that Sookie will have a very happy birthday, but what are the chances of that? She’ll probably spend it being kidnapped, caught in the middle of a fairy feud, being pulled into shifter/were politics, or fighting against a vampire queen’s unwelcome advances towards her man. Or quite possibly all of the above.

But if we were Sookie and we did manage to get the day off – what would be our birthday wish?

We do have one or two rather naughty ideas, and they mostly revolve around a quiet viking night at home.

Probably the best birthday ever!

Or maybe a wild night out at Hooligans is just what Sookie needs?

Let us know how you think Sookie should celebrate, or if you think she is more likely to be fighting for her life than blowing out her birthday candles?

Stephen Moyer gives Sookie teaser for Season 5

True Blood actor Stephen Moyer has been busy helping promote Season 4 in his native UK, and according to the UK Press Association, he even offered a little tease for Season 5.

The actor hinted that season five will offer more changes for Bill and Sookie.

“There is something that happens at the beginning of the season which changes their relationship again” he teased.

Information source UKPA here

Could this be concerning Tara? Or maybe just that as Bill and Eric may be on the run away from Bon Temps, Sookie will be moving on? Perhaps Sookie becomes immune to Bill’s poisoned blood? Maybe Bill is going to emigrate to Peru finally and they will just become long distance pen-pals?

Seriously, why can't he just take the hint and leave?

We are in a positive mood today so hopefully it means Sookie and Bill’s relationship is going to move further away from how it has been in previous seasons. Team Eric and Sookie must never give up hope!

Let us know what you think it might be in the comments below.

HBO Winter Image Spot

For those of us not lucky enough to have access to HBO, their latest Winter Image Spot is now on You Tube. There are no new clips, just a coming soon for season 5. The bad news is the first image of True Blood we see is ……………………… yes you guessed it – Sookie and Bill. The good news is it is Sookie turning away from Bill, and praise the lord, we hardly get to see Eric in the matching outfit from hell, so be thankful for small mercies. If you hang on until around the 1:13 mark, there is a quick viking treat. (Seriously how can it only take him a second to make me smile all over?) and any promo that has Eric Northman and the Stark boys in to gets a big thumbs up in my house.

The song for those that are interested according to you-tube is “Colors” by Grouplove.

1/28 Quopic of the day

Time for some sexy, seductive Eric for our Saturday quopic. The viking and his Sookie spend a quality moment at Fangtasia in the Charlaine Harris short story Dracula Night.

Eric claimed me for a slow dance, and though he was clearly distracted by thoughts of what the night might hold – Dracula wise – he made my toenails quiver.

“Some night” he whispered, “there’s going to be nothing else but you and me”.

When the song was over, I had to go back to the table and have a long, cold drink. Lots of ice.

And who can blame her, in fact a bucket of ice over your head might be more appropriate to recover from a slow dance with the viking.

1/25 QUOPIC OF THE DAY

The gorgeous quopic below in currently doing the rounds on facebook but we wanted to make sure that not a single Sookie and Eric lover missed it. The quote is, of course, from Dead as a Doornail, and the accompanying pictures are from Cold Grey Light of Dawn. All the hard work has been done by missford1.tumblr.com. So a great big viking thank you to her.

Unfortunately the writers of True Blood have already seen to it that we will never get to see the great DAAD scene on the show. Another great Sookie and Eric moment that has been stolen from us, as I’m pretty damned sure Anna and Alex would have knocked this one out of the park.

WARNING: Hot, naked people follow this:

Well in True Blood Eric already knows it was the best he ever had, we just need Sookie to get a reality check now and hopefully their love story can progress in season 5. Fingers crossed.

1/22 QUOPIC 100 days to DEADLOCKED

That’s right folks, just 100 days until Sookie and Eric lovers across the globe kick out the cat, take the phone off the hook and settle down to devour the further adventures and romance of our favorite blonde waitress and her viking vampire sweetheart. Are we getting nervous yet or are we completely confident that Charlaine Harris will pull a future fan favorite out of the bag? To make our quopic today a little bit different in celebration, below are 5 quotes from the Sookie novels (all chapter endings) and you have to guess which book they are from. It’s just for fun and to get your brain working on a Sunday morning, and the answers are after the page jump.

  1. And though I would not have thought it was possible to go to sleep holding hands with a vampire, that’s exactly what I did.
  2. It was time to get this assassination party started. I’d think about other deaths later.
  3. I slipped into the dark house and shut the door in Bill’s face.
  4. Ignoring everything my brain was trying to tell me, ignoring the beginning of a bellow from Eric, I opened the front door and got hit with a ton of bricks.
  5. “You are bullshitting me, Sookie”, he mumured. “but I’ll show you some A-one lovemaking. Because I think you can come again”. As it turned out I could.

1/15 QUOPIC OF THE DAY

Whilst naturally we always enjoy a good old fashioned  Bill Bashing, we don’t want Sookie’s other potential suitors to feel left out so we decided it was about time Alcide took his rightful place in our Quopic of the Day. And where better to start with than Sookie’s reaction when she finds a naked wolf in her bed after returning home from a little viking loving in DEAD RECKONING.

So here’s to you Alcide.

So what, you just decided to sack out here and seduce me when I walked in the door? Home from spending the night at my boyfriend’s? After having sex with him that could go in the Guinness Book of Records?

Mmm record breaking sex, now that reminds me…………

Now be a good wolfy Alcide, and shut the door on your way out please!

Sookie’s New Years Resolution

Everyone makes New Years’ resolutions and the character of Sookie Stackhouse is no different (even though she’s a fictional character and of course, wouldn’t make a New Years resolution).

Our good friends over at BuddyTV shared your favorite characters’ New Years resolutions and this is what they said about Sookie.

Sookie Stackhouse from True Blood

I resolve to: Quit waffling and finally pick the one man I want to be with. I choose Bill. I mean Eric. I mean Bill. I mean Eric. I mean Alcide. I mean Bill, Eric and Alcide.

We agree on this one. We really wish she would quit waffling and pick one too…preferably with ERIC! It gets too confusing and she seems wishy-washy. It makes her seem like a tease, who loves all of this male attention.  And it makes her unlikeable for some of us.

But at the same time…it keeps us interested in finding out what happens next in both the books and on the show. Not to mention, it creates drama, angst and entertainment for us.

Sookie’s Fairyland Trip: One of 9 TV Storyline FAILS of 2011

TV Geek Army has chosen Sookie’s trip to Fairyland at the beginning of True Blood Season 4 as one of the 9 TV Storyline FAILS of 2011 – do you agree?

Read what they said about it below;

Sookie’s Adventure in Fairyland in True Blood Season Four

The point of this was...what exactly?

Over three seasons of True Blood, the writers were slowly revealing that Sookie Stackhouse is indeed special because she’s got fairy blood running through her veins. Rather than explore that in any reasonable fashion, Alan Ball decided to go for uber camp by opening Season Four on some bad telenovela set and called it the fairy world replete with glowing fruit and overacting extras. It’s here that Sookie is reunited with her long dead grandfather, Earl Stackhouse (Gary Cole) and we get some awkward exposition about her family and then everything dissolves into some bad SyFy disaster movie. When the storyline ends in the same episode, the only thing you can ask is why? Why did it look so crappy? Why was Cole wasted? Why open the season that shoddily? There are no answers good enough.

Their many questions will forever remain unanswered – as we already know. It’s just one more major EPIC FAIL of True Blood Season 4. Glad that someone else noticed the continued dropping of storylines too. It’s really sad that many critics and reviewers alike, who have no Team Allegiances in the fandom, are disappointed by the many dropped storylines this past season. It proves the point many of us have been making since the season ended – True Blood’s WRITING SUCKS!

Sookie Stackhouse A Feminist Icon?

I found this article and thought it was interesting and wanted to share it with you.

A blogger from BitchMagazine.com, has written an article about how feminist icons get to be icons? She uses Sookie Stackhouse as an example. We thought it might be interesting to see what you think about this. Is Sookie an icon? What makes her character the perfect example of an icon in the feminist movement? Obviously, they base this off the books, since Sookie on True Blood is anything but a feminist icon – more like a damsel in distress, but let’s see what they have to say!

This is what they said…

The Sookie Stackhouse novels, as they are also known, are premised on the idea that the world is full of supernatural beings—shapeshifters, fairies, and so forth—of which only vampires are open to humans about their existence, as of two years before the novels’ start. Sookie meets her first vampire, Bill, in the course of her work as a waitress in her small Louisiana town. She’s drawn quickly and irrevocably into the supernatural world, enduring frequent fights for her life. The novels aren’t exactly heavy; they’re a fun read, full of sex and wonder. (That’s not a critique: I’m not a fan of hierarchies of culture.)

Charlaine Harris, born in 1951, has been writing mystery novels for over twenty years. One of my favorite things about the novels is that Harris has social justice concerns threaded right through their base. It’s refreshing to have queer characters as a norm, and Harris draws parallels between the treatment of her vampires and queer people. Many fantasy novels which try to address race do so by replacing non-white people with supernatural beings. Harris is unusual for having both groups feature in her novel, often overlapping, and not shying away from the snarls of complications that play out there.

Sookie’s a disabled character who isn’t framed as pathetic, but as sexy and bright. It’s a really nice change.

I like Sookie a lot. She’s a down to earth young woman on the edges of worlds, one she doesn’t quite understand yet, and one in which she’s shunned. She’s not highly educated, and she’s not stupid, and she makes this very evident when people sneer at her position as a waitress. She’s a Christian, and it’s very interesting to me to see how she reflects on that faith in the light of a situation and changing world such as are rapidly throwing around new challenges to her faith. Sookie is quick-thinking and practical, proud and independent.

The thing I like best about Sookie is that I can identify with her as a disabled woman. Disabled main characters are a rarity, and women who aren’t bitter or resentful about their disabilities are even less common. Sookie is a telepath who experiences her condition, and the social position into which it thrusts her, as disabling. Her telepathy is important to the plot, and her identity as disabled is handled respectfully. How often do you encounter a plot with supernatural elements and disability that doesn’t involve a Magical Cure storyline? This is why it really annoyed me when, in the TV series, True Blood, Sookie says that she used to think of it her telepathy as a sort of disability as though that would be a bad thing. Sookie’s a disabled character who isn’t framed as pathetic, but as sexy and bright. It’s a really nice change.

Sookie is sexual, and not, on her own terms—well, mostly—and she stands up for herself. She tells her by then ex-lover Bill that “Those words are not a magical formula” when he hurts her and then tells her he loves her. However, there are times when Sookie has had to ingest vampire blood in order to use its regenerative properties to survive injury. The effect of this is to give the donating vampire knowledge of her emotions forever, and to induce sexual attraction. This is a stark illustration of the frequent denial of agency to Sookie in the books. A few books in, her goal is simply not to get beaten up for a while, which is just awful. I admire the way Sookie handles herself while she is subject to the whims of more powerful people for so much of the time, and I find that this is the situation in which she has been placed really disturbing.

The Sookie Stackhouse books are fun and thought-provoking by turns. I can’t claim to understand precisely why vampire novels have such a grip on the publishing industry right now, but I like these books. I’ll be interested to see where Sookie ends up on the feminist stage.

I never thought of Sookie as a feminist before…but this blogger made some great points! Sookie does tend to take things as they come and doesn’t dwell on things. Mostly she complains about things in her own mind. She is willing to accept what happens to her, for the most part. I think most of us like Sookie because she’s so down to earth and still manages to look at her world in a humorous light. She is clearly a strong character and the core of her hasn’t changed throughout the series. She still loves her friends and family, is loyal and strong, a fighter and willing to do things to help others out.

There is, however, one part of this article I don’t agree with…the blood bond or exchange doesn’t induce sexual attraction per se, it only amplifies what’s already there!

What do you think? Do you think Sookie is a feminist? Or, do you disagree with this article? Share your thoughts below!
